FAQs

Q: Can Esterpeel be used in a conventional oven?
A: The data sheet will give specific details, but in general, polyester based Esterpeels (1,2,3,5 etc) are designed to be dual-ovenable (conventional and microwave), whereas laminates of polyester and other sealing layers (PS2, CPP) are not. Also see the FAQ below where barriers are involved.

Q: Can I specify Esterpeel with a gas barrier?
A: Standard film transmission rates are detailed in the datasheets. All Esterpeel laminates may be specified with a high gas barrier for modified atmosphere packaging, and single ply Esterpeels can be laminated to a barrier film to create a barrier product. Care should be taken if the product is designed to be ovenable, as not all barrier materials are suitable for use at high temperatures. Please contact us for specific advice.

Q: Can Esterpeel be printed?
A: Esterpeel laminates may be printed in full colour, the ink sandwiched between the layers of film to protect both the print surface and the heatsealing machinery. We do not recommend that single ply Esterpeels are printed except as simple scatterprints because of the potential for ink build-up on the machine sealing heads.

Q: How do I know how much film I need?
A: Click here for the Esterpeel usage calculator. You will need to know the film width, repeat and yield of the film (yield available on the datasheet). Optimum film width is usually the width of the tray plus 50mm (25mm each side), repeat is tray length plus 40mm. The yield of the film is given in sqm/kg and depends upon the thickness and the density of the film.

Q: Are Esterpeels safe for direct food contact?
A: All Esterpeel films have been tested and approved for direct food contact. See data sheets for further information.

Q: What effect does contamination on the sealing flanges have?
A: Any contamination on the flanges will affect the films ability to form a good seal onto the tray and may cause gaps in the seal and ultimately cause trays to leak. This should ideally be addressed by good housekeeping on the line, although the selection of a grade of Esterpeel that is good at sealing through contamination will also help, for example Esterpeel 2 is ideal for high contamination levels.
